J. Period has teamed up with Apple Music to exclusively premiereThe All-time Of Nasmixtape for the projection'southward 15th ceremony. Originally released in 2004, the 40-track attempt ready him on a path to Hip Hop greatness.
"The moment this motion picture was taken, my fate was already sealed," he captioned an Instagram photograph of himself and Nas. "It was 2005. A year earlier, my 'Best Of Nas' tape had dropped, and set off a concatenation reaction: commencement, bootlegged on Fulton St. (the ultimate sign your tape was fire), then featured in The Source 'Hottest Mixtapes] (back when information technology was The Bible), and then co-signed by Nas himself."

The moment this motion-picture show was taken, my fate was already sealed. It was 2005. A year before, my "All-time Of Nas" tape had dropped, and fix off a concatenation reaction: first, bootlegged on Fulton St. (the ultimate sign your tape was 🔥), then featured in The Source "Hottest Mixtapes" (dorsum when it was The Bible), then co-signed past Nas himself. By the fourth dimension this photo was taken, I had already convinced myself: I could Do THIS, and there was no looking back. Poolside at Mixshow Power Height (salute @renemclean @iamlylette @djbri_g), I finally got to talk to Nas (it more often than not consisted of me saying "thank you"), and he told me his crew had played him the record, and he loved it. The story could end right in that location, and it would be amazing. But the truth is, it was merely the first… Tonight at midnight, a new chapter unfolds. #BestOfNas Salute God's Son @Nas forever. 🙏🏼

Fast-forrad to 2019 and J. Period has roughly forty mixtapes under his belt and crafted a career across his imagination.
"The mixtape game has changed a lot since the days of hustling tapes on Canal Street," J. Period tells HipHopDX. "Back and so, we could never dream of a scenario where a tape similar this could be cleared for commercial release past an entity like Apple Music, and so today is crazy. I've poured and so much dearest into these mixtapes over the years and it's very exciting to share my first — the record that birthed my way and launched my career — for a new audience to observe.
"In 2019, these tapes are like cultural artifacts of a lost era in Hip Hop, when mixtapes defied the rules and defined the game. Premiering The Best of Nas on Apple Music helps shatter the drinking glass ceiling of what's possible for a mixtape, and I'm honored to help pave the manner for a new generation of DJ's to keep this artform alive in the streaming era."
J. Flow, who is also Black Thought's tour DJ, partnered with Dubset Media to clear the mixtape, a rarity these days. The projection boasts three bonus tracks, including "Street Dreams," "Ane Love" with Q-Tip and "Sick Street Blues" featuring Kool Yard. Rap
In a July interview with DX, J. Period revealed he also has a solo anthology on the style, explaining, "I got really inspired by my experiences at [DJ Jazzy Jeff'due south] Playlist Retreat. That really has pushed me to want to extend my repertoire and be equally serious about information technology as I am almost the mixtapes.
"So, it'southward taken me a while, just I feel like a style has started to evolve and information technology's a lot of improvisation based off the vibe that's created past these incredible musicians."
